Geolocation app copywriting

The brief was to create website copy for an Android and iPhone app that allows two or more people to automatically home in on each others location.

I was personally drawn to the capabilities of this app after running into the exact same problem whilst trying to locate a friend at a music festival – despite her detailed directions over the phone!

Challenges

  • Describing the technical capabilities of the app without overly bulking the copy.
  • Writing the copy without direct access to the app – the app was still in development.

Approach

I decided to target the universal emotions of being lost after recognising that the app would appeal to a wide ranging audience – from colleagues meeting up after work to parents locating their kids. 

I wanted users to imagine that negative feeling initially, then present them the solution to their pain –  CatchApp – an app that provides a positive feeling of safety and security for you, your friends and your loved ones.

At the click of a button you can request your friends’ exact location via GPS. If your friend accepts the request, their location will appear instantly on your map in relation to your own location. CatchApp will even alert both CatchApp parties to any changes in location since the original request. This means no more waiting around and no more difficult directions to follow."

This happens all too often in rural areas or urban locations that lack street signs or visible landmarks. Thankfully catching your friends up on your exact location just got a whole lot easier with CatchApp.

To share your location, you simply select a trusted contact via the app. Your trusted contact will then see your exact location on their map. They can also choose to share their location with you along with an estimated time of arrival. CatchApp will even alert both parties to a change in location since the original request. This means you can go about your business while CatchApp directs your trusted contact for you."

Privacy / security concerns copy

Personal privacy is a growing concern and the client was keen to establish that CatchApp would never allow others to spy on / locate you without your consent.
